Jim Brighton and I birded together this weekend in Charles and St. Mary's
Counties. Highlights in Charles on the 7th were: 1 Red-headed Woodpecker
(Mattawoman), 1 Forster's Tern (Cobb Island), 1 Great Cormorant (Cobb
Island), and 17 species of waterfowl.
Highlights in Saint Mary's on the 8th were mostly around Point Lookout State
Park: 1 Great Cormorant, 1 Barred Owl, 20 species of waterfowl including 2
Richardson's Geese, 2 Pine Warblers, and 1 COMMON REDPOLL. The Redpoll was
feeding in a corn field in a loose foraging flock of bluebirds, golfinches,
House Finches, and Myrtle Warblers. I don't have a map handy, but I believe
the road was called Cornfield Harbor Rd., or it was the road leading in that
dirrection, it was on State Park land.
Also stopped at Sandgates on the 8th and easily located the Kelp Gull.
On the 4th Jim and I heard a Woodcock calling along Annapolis Rock Road in
Howard County.
Good Birding,
Hans
