Hi,

A friend and I visited the mountains last weekend and stopped at Rocky Gap
State Park in Allegheny County on our way out and again on our way
back. On both January 15 and again on January 17 we located 2 Richardson's
Cackling Geese in with the flock of about 100 Canada Geese that was on the
shore of the lake on the side of the lake closest to Route 68. There were
also some other birds on the lake, including Hooded Mergs, a Common Merg,
a Pied-Billed Grebe, and some Coots.

We visited Finzel Swamp and Cranesville Swamp on January 17 and 18,
respectively, but saw no northern owls. Fortunately my friend, who is from
New Zealand, was quite happy to settle for a pair of calling Great Horned
Owls at Finzel and an American Tree Sparrow near Cranesville.
