Blue Mash Nature Trail, Zion Road, Montgomery County, 20 Jan 05,
0830-1100

A great morning to be out and about afield. The freshly fallen and
untrodden snow made for a case study in animal tracks along the BMNT. No
ducks today with both ponds frozen over. Thirty-one species noted to
include 8 sparrows:

Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Canada Goose
Red-tailed Hawk
Ring-billed Gull
Mourning Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
No. Flicker
Blue Jay
Am. Crow
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown Creeper (best look ever at 15' distance & eye level)
Carolina Wren
Hermit Thrush
Am. Robin
No. Mockingbird
Eu. Starling
Ea. Towhee
Am. Tree Sparrow (10+)
Field Sparrow
Fox Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
No. Cardinal
Am. Goldfinch

Also, one Red Fox and a 4-point buck carcass in the process of being picked
to bone by an unruly mob of crows.
