Hello All,

I know this is off-topic to this board, but it is likely that many will want to know about a possible Great Gray Owl in southern PA. Below is a message from one poster that saw it:

PA Birders --

The people who reported the Owl say that they saw it about 8 am on Jan. 9.
They have not seen it recently, but also have not been looking for it. They
are not giving out a real specific location because they do not want a lot
of people at their house, but the following directions are close enough:

The village of Cashtown is about 7 miles west of Gettysburg, and is just
south of the present Rt. 30. At the Adams County National Bank branch on
the south side of Rt. 30 turn south onto High St., go about 1 mile to Old
Rt. 30 in the village of Cashtown, turn left onto Old Rt. 30, go a very
short way and turn right onto Ortanna Road. The Owl was seen on the left
(east) side of Ortanna Rd, about 1/4 mile south of Old Rt. 30.

There is practically no doubt in my mind that the owl was a Great Gray.

A few Adams County birders are out together now to look for the owl and have
not spotted it so far. I'll look for it this afternoon. Let's hope that
it is found again. If you do find it, please call my mobile phone right
away: 717-542-8341
