Hi everyone,
An immature Coopers Hawk just caught and killed a Mourning Dove on the balcony. I heard a thunk and saw feathers flying, so I crept to the door, the glass of which is mostly unclear with condensation. There it was on the balcony floor; I wasn't but three feet away. The hawk had striking yellow eyes and some beautiful mature (red) plumage on its breast. What a sight! It was, of course, a little upsetting having to see the dove in that way... The hawk, once satisfied that there would be no further struggle, took off over the rail and around the corner of the house with its prize. Two Titmice that had spoken disapprovingly at the hawk were then the first to return for seeds.
