Well, I knew it wasn't over. This morning I went out to quickly scrape the
snow away from underneath the feeders and freshen them up, and soon was
feeling quite numbed by the wind chill. Overall the number of species at
our feeders are about average for yesterday (28 sp.) and today (22 so far),
but the number of individuals is about double. Highlights were a fox
sparrow, b creeper, and y-b sapsucker (one of each). High counts (at one
time) for w-t sparrow was 57, d-e junco was 31, cardinal was 11, and r-w
blackbird was 73. I also observed some other interesting species from the
house that were out along the river or in the marsh at Jug Bay, bringing my
species totals up to 64 for the property and 70 for Jug Bay area this year.

Unfortunately, I thought I saw a peregrine falcon (pretty confident id, I
see one or two regularly from my office in Silver Spring) blazing down the
river yesterday, but I did not confirm it. I will keep my eyes open for
today, and post it if I happen to see it.

Also of note, on Inauguration Day (Jan 20), I saw a E. phoebe in our yard
at mid-day.

Enjoy the winter!
