Of two local pairs I have checked near Middletown, one has restored their nest from last year and another has built a new nest as of last week.

Sunday the 30th my wife and I observed a Red-tailed hawk fly to and land on a nest that was
used last spring. The hawk stayed for only a minute or so before flying off. In past years we've
seen Red-tails begin to build (or rebuild) nests as early as the 2nd or 3rd week of
February, but this is the earliest we've ever seen any activity of Red-tails at nest sites. Has
anyone seen this behavior of Red-tails this early in MD? We observed this at Cromwell Valley
Park( Parkville) at 4:00pm. Jim Meyers
