Hello All,
Darlene Valentine joined Shelly, Tori and I to search some fields in northeast Dorchester Co. on 1/29. Our route took us down Oak Grove Road; then to a loop around Hurlock via Medford Rd, Milligantown Rd to Cabin Creek, Lords Crossing Rd to Osborne Rd; the Cokesbury Rd, Contrary Rd and Lone Pine Rd north of Sharptown. Out of all that we found some scattered groups of Horned Larks with Savannah Sparrows. But the largest group was about 25 larks and I do not think that is large enough to have much expectation of longspur. The good find along this route was 3 VESPER SPARROWS mixed in with 19 Savannah and a couple Songs on the southwest end of Oak Grove Rd near the end of Davis Mill Rd. This is my first mid-winter Vespers in the local area. Other sightings included a Meadowlark (on hay bales - end of Cokesbury Rd near Eldorado), a Bald Eagle and a couple hundred Tundra Swan seen in the distance from Lone Pine Rd. The Nanticoke at Sharptown was 90% frozen upstream with 3 more eagles sitting on the ice and about 50% downstream but the open areas only had canadas and mallard. After that, we had some very interesting results on the ponds in the Laurel and Seaford, DE area. Please refer to that post on DE-Birds.

Good Birding,
