A quick trip to the Tidal Basin showed that it is still frozen over,
the few gulls on the ice are still waiting for some fish to die,
and that the species diversity is even lower than it was last
week: Out of a few dozen birds, one was a Herring, another
two were Greater Black-backed, and the rest were Ring-billed.
However, the Ripley Garden Rufous Hummingbird is still here.
(again, in the garden between the A&I Building and the
Hirshhorn Museum, on the Mall.)
It is looking 'different', with a dark line between the throat
and the breast, which might be due to molted feathers.
(However, last year when I noticed that the Rufous was
'molting', it turned out to be a new bird!).
