Some folks asked for more details on the Sunday sightings. The Lapwing was at
it's original spot, as described, on Blacks Mill Road about 1/4 mile west of
Creagerstown and Rt. 550. This was from perhaps 3:45 to 4:15 or so. The spot
is a greener grassy field on the north side of the road, in front of the newish
house. There is a small puddle near the road. Before you get there you pass
a cow pasture and an older house on the right, if you are coming from
Creagerstown.

At some point the bird left this spot headed N. It was refound (by Hans and
Jim?) about 5PM, one mile to the north. From Blacks Mill Road and Rt. 550 in
Creagerstown, go north on 550 about one mile and turn right on Graceham Road. Go
north about 3/4 mile on Graceham. Before you come to the first farm there is
a greener, shorter grass field on the right with a wet area at the north end,
before a fence line and the farm. The bird was there until at least 5:15PM,
rather close to the road. Can anybody say if it left?

This second spot was checked many times on Sunday morning, with no luck.
Driving the various roads in the area you see plenty of places where it might
feed, and realize that from the roads you are only seeing a small part of the
habitat. Nobody knows where it was most of Sunday.
