A similar situation was present here in Talbot County a few years ago. One
of our birders "discovered" a Sand Hill Crane amongst the geese and ducks at
a farmer's pond that was quite readily visible from a public road. I
believe the bird was reported in December. We later learned from the farmer
that he had been seeing the bird since August, and had kind of wondered what
it was, but did not know who to ask.

A interesting tidbit that was passed on by a homeowner to a couple
Howard birders (invited to walk up the driveway to look at the pond)- she
claims to have seen the bird around since August?!?!
Also, when we went to look we did find a Great Horned Owl on a nest
(needed for the block!). A nice surprise.
