Here we go again with uncommon birds in Dorchester Co. On 02-21-05,
I saw a male Eurasian Wigeon on the Choptank River, just east of the Great
Marsh Park. Today, 02-22-05, I saw him again on the east side of the park
but near the shore of the property at the end of Glenburn Ave. It was about
4:00p.m.
Good Luck
Levin
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM WEDNESDAY VISIT:
Levin found the bird on Tuesday. I went over there around 11:00 today and
the bird was still there. It is in the company of about a dozen American
Wigeon, and the entire group seemed almost oblivious to people. The
American Wigeon in this park are accustomed to being fed by various park
visitors, and it appeared that the Eurasian Wigeon was perfectly happy to
join the group for the hand-outs. As a result, visiting birders can get
great 'naked-eye' views of these beautiful birds.
Along the Choptank shoreline at the end of Oakley Street there were
two Red Heads amongst the several hundred Canvasbacks. All these birds are
also very tame as they winter in this location. If you exit your car when
parked at the end of Oakley Street the ducks do not depart. Instead, they
come toward you, in hopes of being fed. Great views indeed!
