Following in Les Roslund's footsteps from last weekend I went to Great Marsh Park in Cambridge this morning to look for the male Eurasian Wigeon. As Les had posted it was along the east side of the park. It was with 19 Baldpate (aka American Wigeon). The flock swam south and then went ashore to graze on the lawn of one of the houses between Glenburn Ave. and Belvedere Ave. I drove to the end of Belvedere and saw the bird in much better light.
In the afternoon I went to Pickering Creek Audubon Center. As I drove down the entrance lane the adult Northern Shrike landed in the top of one of the trees along the lane. It stayed there a minute then flew to the tall tree about 100 yards to the east (behind the gardens), stayed there a few minutes then dropped into the adjacent hedgerow and perched there for about five minutes before disappearing. This was about 2:30.
On Copperville Road on the NE side of Copperville in Talbot County I saw one Cackling Goose in a flock of Canadas beside the road. My last stop was at Coveys Landing where there were 29 Common Mergansers on the Talbot side of the creek and 130 Tundra Swans on the Caroline side. A small flock of Horned Larks along the road there had no other species.
