With the MOS Conference (May 20-22 at Solomons) fast approaching, it's time
to once again think of the Silent Auction/Raffle. Got too many 'birdy'
things for Christmas? Now is the time to pass along those treasures. Are
the book shelves groaning? Weed out those masterpieces and bring them along
for others to enjoy.
And this year a twist on the usual 'same old, same old'....how about
offering your services? Perhaps you're a great birder, or at least live in
a great birding location. You could offer the winning bidder (and a buddy) a
half-day or a full-day of birding. Share your favorite spots, or maybe
concentrate on a single species and offer a mini-course in field
identification. Perhaps your talents lie in another direction.....you could
offer the winning bidder a lunch, or dinner, or even a cake if you're a
great baker. Think outside the box on this one and see if you can't come up
with something to offer. And don't be shy. Chances are good that if you'd
like it, lots of other folks will, too.
