Dear Teen Birders and Naturalists,
This is my yearly announcement for the tropical  ecology study trip I 
lead to the tropics for teens in grades 8-12.  It is a three week trip
that visits most of the ecosystems from the high mountains to the
lowland rain forests.  We will be birding but will also be  looking at
everything else we can find including red-eyed tree frogs, snakes, three
or four kinds of monkeys, three-toed sloths, coati mundis, tamanduas,
lizards, geology, and botany.  There will be a little bit of beach
exploration and snorkeling and an afternoon of white-water rafting.  I
try to  cater the trip to  the interests of the students involved. I
myself am an avid birder, as is our guide Paco Madrigal of Cotinga
Tours.  
     We should see quetzals, scarlet macaws, (possibly great green 
macaws), a couple dozen hummingbirds, sunbitterns, sun grebes, 
boat-billed herons, trogons, jacamars, toucans, displaying manakins, 
and lots of other amazing things.  This is a not-for-profit trip.  
I have been leading  these trips since 1983. I get paid nothing.  And 
we sponsor a Costa Rican teen who joins us at no cost to himself.
