Hey Normie,

What is this about? Was it the continuation of the thread that was
accidentally started by some typos in the Regal Fritillary post (...lager
population...)? You didn't mention the crime to ensure everyone is clear
about the offense.

Anyway, I know that private posts are sometimes accidentally sent to this
serve because we hit the reply button on a message and do not pay attention
to see who it is addressed to. Most of the other listserves that I subscribe
to use the poster's address as the default reply address and force you to
type in the listserve address to post to everyone. That's one way to prevent
the private 'conversations' that sometimes go on via MDOSPREY. I have been
guilty of this more than once.

I know that I mentioned this some time ago to you and you responded that you
prefer the listserv to be the default for everyone's convenience. By not
having it the default though, it could reduce some of the unnecessary
chatter that goes on sometimes. I do agree that it would not have reduced
the number of alcohol referenced bird names that were posted over the last
few days because they were deliberately sent out for everyone's "amusement".
With migration just getting started and the weather being so crappy, it's
been kind of slow and people are bored. They couldn't help themselves.

Can I talk about feral cat populations and what should be done about them
just to see what happens?
Just kidding. ; ^ P

Subject: [MDOSPREY] About MDOsprey

I honestly don't know what is so unclear about the purposes of
MDOsprey.

MDOsprey is not a chat line.

MDOsprey is not a place to send jokes.

MDOsprey is a listserv dedicated to the discussion of birds,
birding, and, occasionally, birders, in Maryland.

I've decided to take a hard line about this because a lot of
subscribers (some of you long-time subscribers who really ought to
know better) don't seem to understand or to care about the stated
purposes of the list.

Eleven of you have been put on NOPOST for the coming week.

If you don't like my policies you are welcome to voice your opinions
to me OFF THE LIST. My e-mail address is
Alternatively, you are welcome to sign off MDOsprey--there are
plenty of folks who want to subscribe right now but can't because we
have reached the limit of subscribers.
