I spent much of the morning at Hains Pt today (Sat, 4/2), along with Rob
Hilton. I/we saw the following birds of interest:
1 alt plumaged COMMON LOON - flying downriver
4 BLUE-WINGED TEAL - 3m, 1f in the Washington Channel
c.50 LESSER SCAUP
c.15 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS
1 NORTHERN HARRIER - ad. male flying high
1 BALD EAGLE - subadult, mostly over Roaches Run
1 PEREGRINE - on the RR bridge
c.100+ BONAPARTE'S GULLS - scattered birds on the river, and then many came
into roost/feed at the north end of the Golf Course. All but one was adult.
Most were still in basic plumage or various stages of transition. Only one
fully black-headed individual.
1 LAUGING GULL - at the north end of the golf course
c.5 AMERICAN PIPITS - flying overhead
Absent were Caspian Tern and any other interesting ducks. No shorebirds on
the wet golf course, and still no Barn Swallows, but we did see No.
Rough-wings & Trees.
Good birding,
