Knoxville, S.Mtn S.Park. Raining most of the day.

Today while salamandering some seeps and upland forest I heard the first E.
TOWHEES of the year, at this location anyway. FIELD SPARROWS also started
their first songs. AM.TREE SPARROWS, silent thus far and not seen by me
this winter anywhere are now pecking aroudn the feeders - never actually
seen them before and I guess they're on their way up north.

On the walk back, almost to the wood-line, I had to turn around at the
commotion of what I thought was jays mobbing a hawk but it was much fuller
sound, coming from the forest floor. Getting closer I saw 2 hawks going to
town and just as I saw them, one took off. The other, a SHARP-SHINNED, flew
10' up and we watched each other for about 15 minutes. I can only guess the
other was a Sharpy, but maybe not - didn't get a good look. Pretty wild.

Still no Y.Rumps, Palms or Pine Warbs through the Weverton Bluffs area of
the S.Mtn S.P (unless on the ridgeline today) though maybe down at the Canal
where they were sighted in Frederick Co today.

(((BTW - Does anyone happen to know if there's an online MD (or MD / VA /
WV) discussion group / naturalist chat for other wildlife or veg, etc. like
MOS does for birds? I'm curious to see who's finding what and where for
this area in addition to birds))).
