Take Action - Please Call Your Delegates Today to Save Maryland
Lands!

We're down to the wire, with only 7 days left in Maryland's 2005
General Assembly Session! Although the Senate unanimously passed
bills

V/comments.jsp?blog_entry_KEY=228> to protect land conservation,
the House of Delegates has just days left to take action. This is
our last chance to really make a difference this session.

Please call your Delegates today and ask them to support the
constitutional amendment bill (SB 102

strengthen bills SB 306

=5&url=http://mlis.state.md.us/2005rs/billfile/hb0004.htm> so they
stop future diversions of land conservation funds without repayment.
This year, 75 cents out of every dollar collected specifically for
land conservation has been diverted to unrelated programs.
These bills would save thousands of acres of Maryland farms, lands,
parks, and open spaces from development.

links to their contact information will appear on the right. If you

At this late point in the Session, every phone call you make to
legislators can really help! We are trying to get 100 phone calls to
Delegates in the next few days--can you make one of those calls and
help us reach our goal?
Some tips for speaking to your Delegates:
*	Tell them that we must stop raiding funds dedicated for land
conservation.
*	Let them know it is a violation of public trust to levy a
tax for one purpose and then use that money for unrelated
programs--Marylanders want to see land conservation funds used for
their intended purpose.
*	We must also prevent any sales of conservation lands without
legislative oversight.
*	Tell them you support bills to protect our conservation
programs--specifically SB 102 and SB 306/HB 4.
*	Let them know you are a constituent and give your name and
address.
Drop us a line at and let us if you called your
Delegates.
Thanks for everything you do to speak up for the environment in
Maryland!
