Hi everyone!

I slept with my windows open last night - a true sign
of spring if ever there was one! Around 3:30 this
morning I was awakened by the sound of a woman
screaming bloody murder. Or so I thought for a few
sleep-hazed moments. It wasn't anything human making
that noise - ear-piercing shreiks that sounded like
they were coming from three feet away from me. It
went on like that for a minute or two, at least. I've
heard that foxes can make this noise, and I have seen
foxes in my yard before. But I've also heard that
Great Horned Owls can make a racket like that - is it
a safe bet that I was visited by a GHOW? I know I've
had them before, because I've heard the woo-wooing.
But never anything like this. It was hard getting
back to sleep after all the excitement - I kept
listening for more screeches...

Good birding,
