Another batch of migrants arrived at or flew over Schoolhouse Pond today.
I saw my first Eastern Kingbird of the season high in a tree near the area
with the picnic tables. Also flying over was a Green Heron and six Double-
crested Cormorants. Two Common Loons flew over as well.

Songbirds included Northern Parula, White-eyed Vireos, a singing Eastern
Towhee, and a group of 10 - 15 Blue Jays.

There was also a good mix of flyover gulls heading towards the Brown
Station Road landfill. These included 85 Ring-billed Gulls (mostly 1st
year), 96 Laughing Gulls, and 127 Herring Gulls. And, among a large group
of Herring Gulls, I spotted the all white, 1st year Glaucous Gull again.
This bird stood out for its large size, and all white plumage on both the
upper and lower sides of the wings. This is the third time in the last
two weeks that I have seen a 1st year Glaucous Gull flying towards the
landfill first thing in the morning, each time with a group of Herring
Gulls. So, if anyone gets up to the landfill, it is worth keeping an eye
open for this gull. Perhaps this is the same gull that was spotted late
in the winter at the landfill, and a few times at Mount Calvert.
