Echoing Ray's post, I had my first Catbird of the year yesterday evening while walking home on River Road. The song came bursting out of a nearby bush, and while my memory was working to remember what that loud, disjointed-sounding song was, it mewed and then flew across the street. Nice to have them back.
In response to the junco question, I saw a single junco in Fort Bayard Park yesterday (Monday) morning and Saturday morning. On Thursday (4/21) there were 4. None this morning, though I briefly heard some high-pitched notes that could have been one. Sometimes I wonder if the semi-urban areas may keep them longer--when I lived at Van Ness, I would often see them rather late into the spring in the landscaped areas near my condo. It'll be interesting to see if that's true here.
