Came out to see if the Cerulean Warblers might be back. Walked the
towpath from Sycamore Landing to Horsepen Hiker-Biker, back through the
fields to the impoundments, then west to Sycamore Landing Rd. Didn't hear
any ceruleans but it was a good day nonetheless. Ended up with 45 species.
Highlights were a female Hooded Merganser with 3 small downy young(my 2nd
nesting record for the area), 2 Wild Turkeys, and a late Winter Wren.
Migrants were scarce but did see a male Blue-winged Teal, 3
Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 27 Myrtle Warblers and at least 30 White-throated
Sparrows. Also saw my first of the year Green Heron, Red-eyed Vireos(2),
Prairie Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, and Common Yellowthroat(4).
Gnatcatchers(19) and parula warblers (7 singing their normal song) have
increased since Sunday.
