We have two of our grandchildren down at the shore with us this weekend, so not too much birding. Nonetheless we heard our first CLAPPER RAILS of the year yesterday (Friday, 29 Apr) along with our FOY CHUCK-WILL'S-WIDOW. This morning, along the shore of one of our community ponds, I saw a pair of SPOTTED SANDPIPER, as well.

A short ride on the ORV Zone on Assateague netted a pair of PIPING PLOVER, always a great bird to see here but also the first of the year for us, accompanied by some late stayers including a lone SNOW GOOSE, about 19 BRANT, 75 northbound DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, and another newcomer, our FOY BLUE GROSBEAK.

A nice morning it was!

Norm
