I went out this morning with Geoff Cant and Sue Henyon to do some early
Atlasing on a mix of public and private land near Upper Marlboro. This is
an excellent area but has not been well surveyed yet, and I hope to change
that this year! Geoff and Sue graciously showed me around, and inspite of
the sopping wet weather we had a very good outing. Quite a few Atlas
observations were made (either new species or status changes), so we are
off to a good year. But highlights were the migrants, especially a flock
of 13 bobolinks that Sue spotted in a field. We got a great look at them
(in the rain) and heard them call a few times. They were in their breeding
plumage, and were beautiful!
