Heading East towards Hagerstown this foggy morning my wife (Donna) and I
decided to stop at Rocky Gap State park. At about 11:30 am, we pulled in
to the main parking lot and I walked down towards the beach. The first
bird that got my immediate attention was a small pale plover walking around
on the beach. In my peripheral vision I could see some gulls (at least one
Herring and some Bonies and a few Ring-billeds) but they weren't important
right now !!!!

I got my scope on this bird and before long I was convinced that it was a
PIPING PLOVER !!!! I'm going to try and get some photos on my website
later tonight and I'll post a link. Incidentally we stopped again and the
bird was STILL THERE as of 7:50 pm this evening. The COMMON TERN that was
there earlier was not refound on our return trip. There were a few Cliff
Swallows around earlier too.

Also out and about we had 2 FORSTER's TERNS at Blairs Valley Lake along
with a Ruddy Duck and an Osprey (a second Osprey was at Big Pool (in Fort
Frederick SP) and 2 Yellow Warblers were further up near I-68 by the Rail
Trail where a small group of 12 or 15 Rusty Blackbirds made an appearance).
At least one Bank Swallow at McCoy's Ferry and a Yellow-throated Warbler
and an Eastern Kingbird were all highlights. At Little Pool there were
Lousianna Waterthrushes, Yellow Warblers PURPLE FINCH, DC Cormorants,
Warbling Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher etc.
