Hi --

We arrived a bit late at Rock Creek Park, DC, at picnic areas 17/18 and it
seemed quiet, but soon livened up considerably! We ended the morning with 16
species of warbler, including a (for us) unprecedented 5 Worm-eatings (!),
plus good numbers of thrushes and cuckoos. It was a miserable year for both
of these in 2004, so this looks promising. We did the picnic area,
equitation field, maintenance yard, stable, Nature Center and Military Field
and found birds in all locations.

Warblers (almost all were singing males): Black-and-White (12), Blue-winged
(2), Black-throated Blue (6), Black-throated Green (2), Hooded (1),
Louisiana Waterthrush (1), Myrtle (~40), Nashville (1), Ovenbird (8), Palm
(1, yellow), Prairie (1, great looks), Parula (1), Redstart (4), Worm-eating
(5, two were singing at traditional breeding sites off ridge), Yellow (1),
Common Yellowthroat (3).

Others: Hermit Thrush (15!), Swainson's Thrush (1), Veery (2), Wood Thrush
(8), Scarlet Tanager (5), Baltimore Oriole (1), Red-eyed Vireo (8),
Blue-headed Vireo (6), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (4), Indigo Bunting (1), Swamp
Sparrow (4), Great Crested Flycatcher (5), LEAST FLYATCHER (1, seen and
heard), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (6), B-G Gnatcatcher (10), Yellow-billed Cuckoo
(5, including one that came in very close to an imitation of its KOWP call),
Brown Thrasher (1), Gray Catbird (12), Common Loon overhead (1).
