Yesterday I found one Horned lark in a recently planted field along St.
Jerome's Neck Road. This morning the Red-headed Woodpecker was in place along rte.
5, as reported, along with a Red-shouldered Hawk. A swampy wooded area about a
half mile south of that held an Osprey pair, one flying around with a fish in
its talons. Earlier, I had followed a Bobwhite down Long Neck Road as it
alternately fed on seedheads & trotted along the roadside. It was totally
unconcerned as I crept slowly along behind him in my SUV, getting some of the best
looks I've ever had of one. Another was calling from the hedge-row/tree line.
Also seen on Long Neck Road, 3 Orchard Orioles, 2 adult males & one first year
male perched most photogenically on a worn fence post. How I wish I had my
camera.
