Had about an hour to check out turf farm fields along River Rd. south of
Whites Ferry. Not the easiest day to thoroughly scope the fields and
could have used more time. Had to scope from inside the car, setting up
the tripod on drink console/passenger seat to keep rain off front
lense. Shorebirds included:
Semipalmated Plover 9
Least Sandpiper 15-20
Killdeer 10+
Solitary Sandpiper 1
All were in the large (by Montgomery cty standards) plowed field across
from southernmost turf fields. Incidentally, the turf field which
produced the Buff-breasted SP last Sept. has been replanted with what I
think are soybeans. Hope this is not start of a trend.
Yesterday, added American Redstart and Eastern Wood-pewee to my yard list.
Good birding,
Andy Martin
