Hi all --

Barry and I went to Rock Creek Park, DC, for perhaps the last time this
spring -- we have missed a lot of action in the last week due to out-of-town
trips with visitors and a very very ill dog. Regulars at Rock Creek earlier
this week were treated to two Mourning Warblers (different days), plus such
nice birds as Wilson's, Tennessee, and Hooded Warblers. We hoped something
might still be around; however the good migratory weather last night seemed
to have cleared out a lot of birds and we didn't re-find any of the species
mentioned above. The day was redeemed by the (brief) appearance of an
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER just as we trooped out of the woods into the open
area near the horse paddocks. It flew in and obligingly sat up on a snag for
maybe 30 seconds, craning its neck and giving a rather odd profile for this
usually chunky-appearing species, but the streaked grayish sides, large
head, and size were enough to get everyone's undivided attention. It soon
flew off north and did not return to the snag.

Other birds seen or heard included: Warblers: Blackburnian (1), Blackpoll
(3-4), Black-throated Green (1), Canada (2), Magnolia (2), Ovenbird (1, most
have gone silent), Redstart (1), Worm-eating (2 heard, assumed territorial
birds), Yellowthroat (2).

Others: Swainson's Thrush (2), Scarlet Tanager (4), Baltimore Oriole (2),
Great Crested FC (1), Wood-pewee (4-5), Acadian FC (4, including a female on
her nest), Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1).
