Folks

A male Rose-breasted Grosbeak is singing as I type this note. He is in Waldorf and late for the breeding grounds.

On Friday a Barred Owl and Rose-breasted Grosbeak were singing at Carey Run.

The other bird of note over the holiday weekend was a single Black Tern flying around the Oakland, Garrett Co. sewage treatment plant on Saturday. Upland Sandpipers (4), Willow Flycatcher (4), Bobolinks (?), and Cliff Swallow (?) were also present at the treatment plant location.

A female Wild Turkey on 12 eggs was accidentally flushed while trying to photograph a Spicebush butterfly at Mt. Nebo the same day. Gwen found a Blue-headed Vireo pair building a nest also at Mt. Nebo.

Alder Flycatcher and Northern Waterthrush were singing at Finsel on Sunday morning.

Warblers were hard to find. The usual suspects were in the expected locations but in low numbers. Maybe the wet, cold weather had something to do with it.

The Western Kingbird is still very cooperative at Fort Mc Henry Monday morning.

Time to go atlasing.
