Yesterday afternoon, I had 8 cedar waxwings fly into a black mulberry tree
in my yard. The fruits are still very green, but that did not stop the
waxwings from taking a few samples. While feeding, I observed 2 birds
passing a mulberry back and forth. One bird would give the mulberry to the
other. The receiving bird would turn around, walk (hop?) a foot or so along
the tree branch, turn around and walk back. He would then pass the mulberry
back to the other bird who would repeat the same pattern of walking away and
then coming back to continue the exchange. The birds were only around 12
feet away from me as I watched.
