The holiday weekend continues to turn up good birds in the District. This
(Mon) morning, Rob Hilton & I hit Kenilworth Park and the Aquatic Gardens,
and found the following:

AMERICAN BITTERN - 1 bird flushed from the ponds at KAG
SNOW GOOSE - 1 ad. with the Canadas at KP (first found by Rob this morning)
WILLOW FLYCATCHER - 2 singing males, 1 in the grass area of KP and 1 at KAG
(on top of all the WIFLs at the Anacostia Wetlands)
WARBLING VIREO - while not unusual, we were able to confirm nest building at
KAG
CEDAR WAXWING - again, not unusual, but nest building confirmed at Anacostia
Wetlands
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT - There are somewhere between 6-9 singing males between
KP and KAG. This is an amazing number, up from the 2 that I heard at KP
back on 5/15. Neither Rob nor I have ever had more than 1 male at a time in
this area before this year.
EASTERN MEADOWLARK - 1 singing in KP (first found by Rob yesterday)

Add to this the TURKEY we found on Saturday and the LEAST BITTERN that Fred
F. found on Friday, and you've got quite a list. Who knows when both
bitterns occurred in the District at the same time before this weekend?

Good birding,
