Hi Everyone,
I was in the area this morning, so I tried for the OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER
that Bonnie reported. I didn't know where exactly to look, so I just cruised
around and watched the tops of the dead snags. I eventually ended up on
Kingsbridge Road, which looked quite promising in the snag department. I had
a good distant candidate at the top of a snag at the intersection of
Kingsbridge and Queens Way, but it flew off before I could be sure of its
identity. A little disappointed to have probably missed the bird, I drove
Kingsbridge and its side roads a couple times. Near the end of the road,
just as I was about to call it a morning, I spotted a flycatcher at the top
of a snag. Bins raised... drum roll... OLIVE-SIDED. :)
I left the bird at around 11:30 a.m. To reach Kingsbridge Road, take 108
west from US-29 (~2 miles), then make a right on Centennial Lane. Pass the
schools on your left, take a left on Breconshire, and then a left on
Kingsbridge Road. This community has a sign that says, "The Preserve." The
bird was perched on a snag on the left, beyond a large lawn, just before
reaching a more densely populated community at the end of the road.
Good luck if anyone tries for it. Thanks for the report, Bonnie :)
By the way, if anyone is interested, I've posted quite a few updates to my
web site. These include one of the Frederick Co. DICKCISSELs originally
reported by Bob Ringler, the RED KNOT seen in Calvert Co. during the MOS
conference, a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER on Hart-Miller, and many shots of the
incredibly cooperative WILSON'S PHALAROPE that we had on this weekend's
Hart-Miller trip. (All of the new/updated pages have a "New" icon next to
them.)
