More good birds (at least they are good for DC)

The adult SNOW GOOSE was at Kenilworth Park again.
This was noted there on May 30.

The EASTERN MEADOWLARK found at Kenilworth Park on May
29 has been heard singing on May 30, 31, and June 5.
This means the bird is now a Probable breeder for this
Atlas block, and a rather nice breeding bird for DC.
This species has not been found during the summertime
in Kenilworth Park as far as I know since I started
going there in 1997/1998.

The Field Sparrows Paul Pisano saw on June 4 at
Kenilworth Park were not in evidence early in the
morning (7:30 am).

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens was not quite as exciting
as on June 4. I did hear singing PROTHONOTARY
WARBLERs at two locations in the gardens. A NORTHERN
PARULA sang near the visitor center; we did not here
this species on other visits during the past couple of
weekends.

I caught a brief glimpse of a bird that might be a
Mississippi Kite--it could have been 100 feet above
the ground and if that high, surely about 150 feet
away from me, all dark with the tail darkest, no
markings visible (or any other color, for that
matter), long narrow tail, pointed, longish and
narrowish wings. Sailing rather languidly in the
direction of the National Arboretum. I only had it in
view for a few seconds before it disappeared from
view. I reckon I'll be back there next weekend
looking for it. I believe there is no accepted record
of this species for the District of Columbia.

Cheers,

Rob Hilton
