Hi Folks,

Elaine and I did some work in the Curtis Bay CW atlas block (Anne Arundel
Co.) by paddling the backwaters of Curtis Bay on Tuesday (6/7) and again
this afternoon (Friday 6/10), and had some interesting finds, particularly
gulls and waders.  Birds seen/heard during the two trips (all from the water
except for Cattle Egret), with their atlas significance, included:

Canada Goose--FL--several families
Wood Duck--X--about 7 males seen on 6/7; one male on 6/10; where are the
females??
DC CORMORANT--O--several on 6/7; one on 6/10 (first day of safe dates); new
for the block
Great Blue Heron--O--about 10 seen each visit
SNOWY EGRET--O--two on 6/7; one on 6/10; new for the block
LITTLE BLUE HERON--O--one adult 6/10; new for the block
CATTLE EGRET--O--two on Carbide Rd. (off of Pittman, off of Ft. Smallwood
Rd.) by Fed Ex facility
Green Heron--X--one on 6/7
Osprey--ON--pair on nest on channel marker
Bald Eagle--O/X--adult in Tanyard Cove where they have already been
confirmed for the block
Red-tailed Hawk--FY--carrying a live snake (Garter Snake?)
Spotted Sandpiper--one seen on 6/7, missing safe dates by three days
Herring Gull--many adults and a few juveniles, 6/7 and 6/10
GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL--O--one adult 6/7; new for block
Least Tern--several out feeding both days; already confirmed in block
N. Flicker--P--6/10, pair together
Great Crested Flycatcher--X--two or three heard on 6/10
E. Kingbird--X--seen both days; one failed to catch a bug in flight after 6
or 7 attempts
Fish Crow--NB--carrying long pieces of vegetation on 6/10
Purple Martin--X--several adults flying around both days; already confirmed
in block
N. Rough-winged Swallow--ON--flying from hole in bank on 6/7
Barn Swallow--ON--several on nests under Rte 10 bridge over Furnace Creek on
6/7
Ovenbird--X--6/10, Tanyard Cove; already probable in block
Common Yellowthroat--X--6/10, Furnace Creek; already probable in block
House Sparrow--ON, 6/7, in martin house
