Went out to Poplar today on work related issues, but while I was out there I
was able to spot one American Avocet. Also in the harbor was a Long tailed
duck in full breeding plumage. The shorebird numbers have really dropped
and the terns are starting to come into full swing. For the Atlas I had 5
pairs of cattle egrets on nest in with the snowies. Also noted today was a
pair of oystercatchers, though I have not seen any nesting behavior so far.
Tragically the mute swan population out at Poplar is growing by the day,
coming in to feast on the local grass beds both in and around the island.

Good Birding,
