Folks

Gwen and I went atlasing in King George NE, Charles County. There is only a small area of land in Maryland for this block but it was pretty productive. In the 83-87 atlas only one species was recorded. We finished in less then an hour with 36 species. Shows what you can do if you ask a property owner for permission. Mr. Abreast (sp?) was very cooperative and we thank him.

Highlights were:

Osprey - the 83-87 atlas bird.
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Acadian Flycatcher
Eastern Phoebe
White-eyed Vireo
Yellow-throated Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
White-breasted Nuthatch
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Wood Thrush
Northern Parula
Yellow-throated Warbler
Black & White Warbler
Ovenbird
Common Yellowthroat
Hooded Warbler
Scarlet Tanager
Eastern Towhee
and Orchard Oriole

Prior to the atlas block, we had two King Rails respond at the Audubon Sanctuary off Tayloes Neck Rd, Nanjemoy while doing a marsh bird survey for DNR.

Good atlasing.
