Birds at Masonville 6/25/05

   I visited Masonville Cove in Baltimore City this afternoon to do another bird survey. It was hot but breezy.

Mallard  12
Lesser Scaup  2 males - has summered here before
Pheasant  1 heard - probably a lone holdout at this site
DC Cormorant  12
Great Blue Heron  4
Great Egret  2 - nest several miles away at Fort Carroll
Green Heron  1
Black-crowned Night-Heron  1, also nests at Fort Carroll
Turkey Vulture  1 - soaring, does not nest here
Osprey  2 - nest nearby in the harbor
Killdeer  1
Spotted Sandpiper  2 adults
Ring-billed Gull  1 - a few always linger through the summer
Herring Gull  2
Least Tern  2
Downy Woodpecker  1
Kingbird  5
Blue Jay  1
Rough-winged Swallow  6 - could be migrants
Barn Swallow  14
Carolina Wren  1
House Wren  1 heard
