On my nightly exercise walk around Sewell's Orchard Pond (or Lake Gem as soom realtor's seem to be calling it these days! lol!), I was rewarded with a good look at a BLACK CROWNED NIGHT HERON at the small end of the pond. In the many years I have been in that area, this is the first time I have seen a BCNH at our little pond!
What a beautiful boy he was! And he didn't seem to care about me at all (and I got pretty close to him). He just gave me a look, decided I wasn't a threat, and went about his business - making his way around the edge of the pond, peering into the water, looking for a nice dinner. I hope he takes up residence!!
As I was watching him, a GREEN HERON flew over. Then later, at the larger end of the pond a gorgeous GREAT-BLUE flew in a landed on the pier.
I felt like I had won the Heron lottery!
