Came out for the first time since I finished my breeding bird surveys
in mid-June. Checked the wires along River Rd and then the impoundments.
Walked along Hunting Quarter Rd to the center road and back on River Rd.
Not a bad day-51 species. Highlights were a Least Bittern calling
briefly, 7 White-eyed Vireos, 27 Rough-winged Swallows (first fall migrants)
on the wires along River Rd., one robin (rare breeders here), 2 pairs of
Prairie Warblers feeding young, and two La. Waterthrushes.
Still a fair amount of singing. Species heard were E. Wood-Pewee,
Acadian Flycatcher, great Crested Flycatcher, White-eyed Vireo,
Yellow-throated Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Warbling Vireo, House Wren, E.
Bluebird, Wood Thrush, Gray Catbird, Northern Parula, Prairie Warbler,
Prothonotary Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, E. Towhee, Chipping Sparrow,
Field Sparrow, Cardinal, Orchard Oriole and Indigo Bunting. |
