Signs of fall shorebird migration continue. I stopped at Mason Dixon Farm in Frederick County yesterday. The water level in the east pond was down significantly. There were 43 Killdeer, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, and 3 Spotted Sandpipers in it. The west pond is still full. I also stopped at the ponds in New Windsor, Carroll County where the main pond has only a few small pools of water remaining. One Green Heron, 20 Killdeer, and 2 Least Sandpipers were there.
On Shoemaker Road in Frederick County one male Dickcissel was perched at the nest site near the entrance to the gun club. Another was singing about 100 yards farther down the road to the south.
