Hot as it is, there are still lots of nice Atlas data points just
waiting to be grabbed up. Four confirmations this morning in a block that
had not been searched in prior years included three woodpecker species and
an Indigo Bunting. Passing by were three Night Herons. Several Bob Whites
were calling, and of course baby Robins were everywhere.
In recent days the following have also been seen or heard:
Cattle Egrets - eight of them amongst the cattle south of Bozman
along Bozman-Neavitt Road
Least Sandpipers - six (private property site)
Louisiana Waterthrush - a surprise to me in one of my Atlas Blocks -
but outside of safe dates
Grasshopper Sparrows - along Sharp Road, and also on the planned
industrial park grounds beside Glebe Road near Easton (where lots of young
were also around).
Least Terns are now abundant above the Giant Food Store in Easton as
feeding of the young must be taking place.
