flew up to the nest and wreaked havoc?
Pat,
I have seen Blue Jays fly right up to a House Sparrow nest under my eaves
(built on the bend or elbow of the downspout, where it comes from the roof to
meet the edge of the front of the house), and take nestling(s) right from it.
Perhaps that is what took your Phoebes.
