Phil,

I did want to make one more comment on the Gatorade. I normally have been
carrying a half gallon of Gatorade in my backpack on Saturdays. The weight
distribution was not good, the bottle took up much room, shifted around a
lot, and made the backpack uncomfortable to wear.

I tried something new this weekend that I was very pleased with. I
purchased a Camelbak "Rim Runner" backpack with a 100 ounce (3 litre)
reservoir. I poured in the half gallon of Gatorade and filled the reservoir
to the top with ice cubes. The weight distribution was excellent. Without
having to carry the Gatorade bottle, there was lots of room available in the
backpack. Most importantly, the backpack was designed for comfort. You
drink through a delivery tube while wearing the backpack. The upside --- I
carried around 100 ounces of liquid more comfortably than when I was
carrying a 64 ounce bottle. The downside --- you don't know how much liquid
you have left without taking off the backpack and checking the reservoir
compartment. (Bill Hubick suggested that you should carry around a small
reserve bottle of liquid to use in the event that you drain the reservoir.)

If anyone spends a lot of time hiking, I recommend the Camelbak. They come
in several different models. More information can be found at
www.camelbak.com .
