At mid-day I went up River Road and parked under the
first tree past (towards White's Ferry) the mailbox at
24000. The male Dickcissel singing on the other side
of the tree stayed there, singing (and looking hot),
while I got out of the car and walked slowly backwards
until I spotted it. The bird stayed in the tree
singing three or five note songs with bell-like
overtones for some five minutes. It stayed in the
tree even after I walked up the road toward the other
singing Dickcissel. The first Dickcissel mustered
enough energy to eventually drive off an Eastern
Kingbird which had flown in to the tree, and it flew
out into the ?soybean field and continued its sporadic
singing. I glimpsed the second Dickcissel as it flew
toward me from afar. Several Bank and Barn Swallows
were about, and Field Sparrow, and Indigo Bunting were
the only other singing species. I got back into my
car shortly before I was going to melt. Hooray for
car air conditioning!

Earlier today I birded at Violette's Lock and the end
of Sycamore Landing Road with Paul Pisano and Dave
Czaplak. The only cormorant(s) we saw were
Double-crested. I did see my first (?or second)
Dragonhunter dragonfly though!
