Hello,
This morning I went with my buddy Steve to that soy bean field at 2400 River Road. The first birds we both saw were dozens, if not hundreds, of Tree Swallows and a smaller number of Barn Swallows, a few Eastern Kingbirds, 1 female Orchard Oriole, a male and female Indigo Bunting, 1 American Kestrel, my year's first, and 2 or 3 Song Sparrows. Oh yeah, one Red-winged Blackbird, a female. But after we there for around 20 minutes and were going to leave, we finally saw the bird we came to see. A Dickcissel flew out of the field to the top of a roadside tree and began to sing. I just had an original 8x42 Audubon Equinox, not a Zeiss FL or something like that, but I got a perfect look at it. It was a little bigger than I thought they would be.
