This (Sat., 8/20) morning I had a very obliging juvenile WESTERN SANDPIPER
in the back parking lot of Kenilworth Park in NE DC. Also present were 4
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS (saw 7 there on 8/5), 1 LEAST SANDPIPER, and c.25
KILLDEERS. The birds were easily spooked due to the presence of an adult
AMERICAN KESTREL and a young COOPER'S HAWK that buzzed the birds on
occasion. But they didn't stick around too long anyway because the soccer
players started to arrive around 9am.

A SPOTTED SANDPIPER at the Natl. Arboretum made it a 5 shorebird day in DC -
not bad these days. Also at the Arb were 2 BLUE GROSBEAKS - 1 ad. male and
1 young bird.

Good birding,
