Hi all,
What if they gave a fiield trip and nobody came? Well I had the chance to
find out this morning, as I was the only person on my Montgomery Bird Club walk
at Meadowside Nature Center. Alas, too bad. When Meadowside is good, it's
usually very good, and the place was really hopping this morning. A friend
joined me late, and we did see some good stuff (Blue-winged Warbler,
Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black&White, A. Redstart, Common Yellowthroat,
and Canada Warbler and lots of empids!). My best sighting was a great look at a
lone RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH which I was the only one to see, even though
another fella had joined us briefly to sort through all the flitting warblers. It
disappeared before my friend or the stranger could find it, and couldn't be
relocated.
Other good finds included a pair of Yellow-throated Vireos, many Baltimore
Orioles, Bay-breasted Warbler, Northern Parulas, Black-throated Green Warblers,
plus all 3 mimids, Downy, red-bellied N. Flicker and Pileated Woodpeckers,
and Yellow-billed Cuckoos. Just a very pleasant morning to be in the woods,
lots of beautiful sunshine with low humidity and no insects. 50 species seen.
