This morning I visited Poplar Island in Talbot County with Jan Reese. There has been a big turnover of shorebirds there and we recorded 22 species in 4.5 hours. Semi Sands probably numbered over a thousand and there were hundreds of Lesser Yellowlegs, Leasts, and Pecs. Highlights for the day were:
Golden Plover 5
Knot 2
White-rumped Sandpiper 5
Baird's Sandpiper 1
Stilt Sandpiper 15
Buff-breasted Sandpiper 8
Wilson's Phalarope 2
Red-necked Phalarope 10 (1 winter adult + 9 juveniles)
Other birds included: Shoveler 25, Black Tern 1
On the way home I stopped at Pickering Creek Audubon Center. The water was high in the impoundment and the vegetation was even higher. I saw some Mallards and a Shoveler there.
I also stopped at Central Sod Farms in Queen Anne's County for about 45 minutes (2:30-3:15) before an immature Cooper's Hawk scattered the birds. Nothing notable there:
Semipalmated Plover 1
Killdeer 25
Least Sandpiper 20
Pectoral Sandpiper 4
Laughing Gull 50
Horned Lark 20
